Programs offered by Woodstock Skating Club

PRE CanSkate, CanSkate (stage 2-4) CanSkate

CanSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship program and is one of the most sought-after skating programs in Canada. CanSkate was developed by experts to teach the fundamentals of skating in a progressive manner. Designed for beginners of all ages, the focus is on fun, participation and basic skill development. Participants earn ribbons and badges as skills are mastered such as BALANCE, ALGILITY AND CONTROL. Skaters are taught in a group lesson format by Skate Canada professional coaches and supported by trained program assistants. CanSkate is the foundational and feeder program for all other Skate Canada club and community ice sport programs.

STAR Skate (Formerly known as JUNIOR)STARSkate 

Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition – this is what STARSkate is all about!

STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of: 

    1. ice dance
    2. skating skills
    3. free skate
    4. interpretive skating 

Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Skaters who have mastered figure skating skills in STARSkate may also choose to pursue synchronized skating or pairs skating.

STARSkate has been the mainstay of figure skating in Canada for more than four decades and ofers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and nterpretive skating. Designed for skaters moving into the test stream. Skaters at this level and higher are expected to have their own professional coach.

 

Intermediate STAR (Formerly known as Intermediate)

Qualifications: Skaters must be under the guidance of a professional coach. Skaters must have passed Preliminary Dances and be recommended by a professional coach. Must have their own professional coach.

 

Senior STAR (formerly known as Senior)

Qualifications: Skaters must be under the guidance of a professional coach. Skaters must have passed all of the Preliminary Free Skate, Senior Bronze Skating Skills and Junior Bronze Dances or be recommended by a professional coach. 

CanPOWER SKATING - PRE Power Skate & Levels 1 to 6CanPowerSkate 

An action packed, high energy instructional program geared to hockey and ringette skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skaters five years and older should be able to skate forward and backward the length of the ice, and stop on command. Skaters in Levels 1 to 6 are required to wear full CSA approved hockey equipment.

PRE CANPower is designed for young skaters who can stand up and move forward (shuffle, walk or glide) but not yet ready for Level 1.  Instruction is provided in group format lead by a NCCP certified Power Skating coach.

 

SPECIAL OLYMPICS

A unique program geared to persons with developmental or physical disabilities and endorsed by the local Special Olympics Association.  For futher information call our office or speak to our coaches/board members
